we desire that all our students grow in knowing god through jesus.
the office spiritual formation equips students to engage their faith journeys intentionally and authentically, and we create space for christian community on campus. our whole student body is invited to participate and contribute, regardless of whether you identify as christian.
our office aims to cultivate opportunities for and with students to encounter god, be formed by the spirit, and embody christ-like character. one way we do this is by facilitating a campus-wide gathering as well as small-group breakout chapels every week.
we want to hear from you! let us know who or what you would like to see in the gathering.
chapel requirement
chapel is meant to invite us into a communal rhythm in which we share life together. each week, the entire campus gathers together, and students meet with a small, consistent group.
requirements: students are required each semester to accrue 20 chapel credits. no more than 15 of those credits may come from the gathering. no more than 10 of those credits may come from your enrolled breakout. occasionally, additional chapel credit opportunities are offered throughout the semester.
iattended: iattended is used to track your chapel attendance throughout the semester. below are instructions for how to set up your account and use the app.
getting started
- download the iattended app from the apple store or on google play
- enter your @mail.lipscomb.edu email address
- select "send activation link" and check your email
- follow the steps in the email from iattended
to log attendance at the gathering
- open the app and tap "scan me"
- show your qr code to a chapel scanner (found at the top of each aisle in allen arena and in the help zone located near the main doors)
to log attendance at breakouts
- open the app and tap "scan code"
- hover your camera over the qr code
don’t have a smartphone? accommodations can be made! chapelrequirements [at] lipscomb.edu (email us) and someone will be in touch to help you!
how to check your attendance
- open the app and tap "progress"

virtual exception: all full-time, traditional* undergraduate students are required to participate synchronously in the gathering. students who cannot be present in allen arena on tuesdays because of their class, work or internship schedule may apply for a virtual exception, meaning they can participate in the gathering virtually and asynchronously each week by watching a recording of the gathering on the iattended app or on iattendedapp.com to be marked as having attended.
the gathering
we believe that the communal pursuit of god is one of our primary callings as followers of jesus. our community participates in the campus-wide gathering to fellowship with god and each other through prayer, worship and the study of scripture.
the gathering meets in allen arena at 10:55 a.m. every tuesday for the whole semester.

breakout chapels
breakouts are an opportunity for more intimate connection through diverse ways of engaging our spiritual journeys. groups are led by lipscomb faculty, staff, students, alumni and ministry partners. some breakouts explore specific topics while others seek to deepen relationships in already existing communities, like student orgs, res halls and social clubs. our office loves to help students find the breakout that is the best fit for them!
students commit to a group at the beginning of the semester and meet with that group weekly. most breakouts meet on thursday mornings at 10:55 a.m., but a variety of breakouts meet at other times.
