nicaragua med summer 2024 - maddie's story
may 30, 2024
our team had the opportunity to return to nicaragua and serve alongside the workers and volunteers of mission para cristo in a variety of ways. through the hands of christ, we were able to medically serve a multitude of residents all over the area with the help of each student and doctor on the team. this allowed us to provide necessary medical attention and medications to hundreds of residents. we witnessed what true gratefulness and compassion were throughout this week during each interaction between patient and worker. we watched as the word of god was spread at each clinic by the mission staff. we learned that god’s love is imminent everywhere through church services hosted by the mission. we spread love, hope, and kindness to those in need of it, including children, parents, the elderly, and more. ultimately it was acknowledged that a smile, a high five, a hug, a balloon, a listening ear, or someone singing happy birthday to you can turn someone’s world around for the better. a recurring message throughout this trip was a verse left on the walls of the mission for all to see; “don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” 1 timothy 4:12. while our ultimate goal was to bless those who we served, the blessings of this trip placed in each member’s lives are indescribable and we will be forever grateful for them.
