marking its 60th anniversary with this year’s theme singarama: the diamond anniversary, the beloved annual production premieres on march 30 and runs through april 1.
participants are divided into three shows, provided a theme and asked to develop storylines, write scripts with 8-10 songs, choreograph, create sets and costumes and perform in their 25-minute shows. a panel of judges evaluate the shows using five categories: entertainment, vocals, theme, visual elements, and choreography. there is one overall sweepstakes winner selected.
this year’s shows:
diamond in the rough is directed by bella peden and lexi peden and is presented by phi sigma, phi nu, tau phi, sigma alpha and friends. the story is about an orphaned songwriter who, while competing for a life-changing gig against his rival, meets a magical genie who grants him three wishes. as he prepares for his audition, he meets the girl of his dreams who helps him learn the importance of selflessness and authenticity.
no pressure no diamonds is directed by mackenzie meadows and callie horner and is presented by delta omega, kappa chi, theta psi and friends. the story follows a couple who faces one of life’s most universal, yet daunting experiences: meeting the in-laws! the show begins with the couple in a new york city park on two vastly different pages. what ivy interprets as her long-awaited engagement is dallas’s plea to return home to his family’s ranch for his father’s 60th birthday. once the strained couple arrives at the ranch,
ivy is put to the test and must prove herself by completing several challenges that revolve around the birthday party. will ivy be able to face the pressure? is her idea of love really diamond-worthy? come laugh with us as we discover how pressure is worth enduring to illuminate life’s most meaningful relationships.
shine bright like a diamond is directed by jeffrey martin and gray pullias and is presented by pi delta, gamma lambda, sigma iota delta and friends. the story is set in the beautiful state of ohio, where a group of tight-knit friends is abruptly fired from their jobs at a bike shop. unsure of their future, they take a leap of faith and make a move to the big apple in pursuit of their dreams. as they encounter new loves, mentors, and friends, the group must come to terms with the idea that shining bright looks different to everyone. to truly step toward their goals requires risk, courage, sacrifice, and loyalty.
this year’s hosts are josiah smith, sophomore; kaylin townsend, senior; shawna mann, senior; kelle cates, senior; logan bennett, freshman; reiley moore, junior; and meridith roberson, senior. they will dazzle the crowd with some of your favorite hits and ballads from the past 60 years!
brady bryson is serving as the student producer this year, overseeing the singarama production team (spt) and overall singarama needs. the spt is a team of students who assist the student producer with marketing, stagehands and behind-the-scenes activities of singarama.
more than 17,000 students have participated in singarama over the past 60 years, creating a sense of accomplishment, building memories and friendships and connecting a special kinship with generations of the lipscomb community.
singarama will likely bring a crowd for this monumental celebration. for this reason and because of a new ticketing service that requires all tickets to be purchased online in advance, patrons are encouraged to purchase tickets early. all ticket sales are cashless, and no tickets can be sold at the door.
