the month of march is nationally recognized as national nutrition month.
during march, emphasis is placed on making informed and healthy decisions when it comes to food. the department of nutrition and kinesiology at lipscomb teaches the importance of health, fitness and eating well within the framework of living for christ.
graduates of lipscomb’s nutrition program often go into health care fields, including working in hospitals, outpatient clinics, public health nutrition, food systems management, private practice nutrition therapy, nutrition marketing and media, sports nutrition, and countless other professions.
the nutrition department is full of faculty and students who value health and are passionate about sharing that value with others. autumn marshall currently serves as the chair of lipscomb’s nutrition and kinesiology department. marshall is celebrating her profession this month and is thankful for the students and colleagues who she works alongside.
“i love the nutrition field because it provides a way for people to become healthier by doing something we all do every day: eat good food,” says marshall. “the lord has given us such a wonderfully diverse range of foods to eat: diverse in color, diverse in flavor, diverse in nutrients and potential health benefits. if you can eat your way to better health, why wouldn't you choose to do that?”
“when you go to the doctor, what is the first thing she or he tells you to do? ‘eat right and exercise.’ my department has the glorious job of helping people do just that,” she continues. “i love my fellow faculty members, both in nutrition and kinesiology, because they are delightful people who are training future health professionals to help people live their best lives through eating well and moving more.”
during march, marshall encourages the community to be sure to move your body, and be mindful of healthy choices and to remember to thank those in professions that focus on nutrition.
