interlibrary loan is a service provided to current students, faculty and staff that will enable them to borrow books and articles not in our current collection.

general policy

what is interlibrary loan?

interlibrary loan (ill) is a service to provide materials not owned by beaman library.  the national interlibrary loan code sets policy for all participating libraries.

who is eligible for interlibrary loan?

current faculty and staff and currently enrolled students may use this service.

what can be borrowed?

books and copies of journal articles may be requested from other libraries.*

what is the borrowing period?

loan periods are determined by the lending library. 

what is the cost?

cost is determined by the lender.  every effort will be made to borrow from institutions that loan free of charge.  all charges will be billed to the account of the one making the request.

how is a request made?

requests are made electronically through the beaman library web site (http://library.lipscomb.edu/search~s1).  there are also two forms on this page, one for articles and one for books.  the forms must be completed accurately for the request to be made.

how many items can be borrowed?

undergraduates may request up to 10 items per semester.  graduate students and faculty are limited to 3 requests per week.

how long will it take to receive the item?

books usually take from 2 to 3 weeks.  most articles are sent electronically and may come in as little as 3 days.  always check with the ill office if there is a concern.

where is the interlibrary loan item returned?

books must be returned to the reference desk on or before the due date .  articles do not need to be returned unless otherwise indicated.

 

*not all books or articles can be borrowed.  if a request cannot be filled, an email will be sent with an explanation.
