amanda williams
biomolecular science
assistant professor
biography
amanda williams was raised in providence, kentucky. she met her husband, rick, at the green hills starbucks when they were both college students at lipscomb (b.s., biology). upon graduation, she worked in research laboratories at vanderbilt medical center. it was in those laboratories that she found a passion for scientific research and discovery. she earned a m.s. in laboratory investigation from vanderbilt university school of medicine (2008) before coming back to lipscomb to teach in the biology department in 2010. as a faculty member, amanda has discovered her love for teaching students both in the classroom and through scientific research. she earned a ph.d. from meharry medical college in 2018 in microbiology and immunology. in addition to teaching, she mentors both undergraduate and graduate students in research. her lab studies the role of innate immune peptide, human alpha defensin 5, in crohn's colitis. amanda has won several awards, including the college of liberal arts and sciences "excellence in scholarship" award.
amanda and rick have two children, anna and asa. in her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family on kentucky lake, reading, and traveling.
