dr. karen marklein is director of programs for the ayers institute for learning & innovation and assistant professor in the college of education. the first 20 years of karen’s professional career were devoted to the students of sumner county schools, where she taught high school english and served as a secondary instructional coach and district-wide teacher evaluator. karen is an ardent supporter of teaching and learning, and a believer in the power of collaboration. karen is currently pursuing professional coach certification through the international coach federation and serving a three-year term as a caep site visitor. in her work with the ayers institute, karen appreciates the opportunity to build capacity in educators so that they can build capacity and improve outcomes for students.
