biography
joshua fleer is the associate director of the center for christianity and scholarship. dr. fleer provides leadership for the center and promotes faculty research through several initiatives that facilitate scholarly collaboration, promote interdisciplinary research, and provide opportunities for faculty to demonstrate broader impacts of their scholarship. he is the founder and managing editor of paradoxum: an interdisciplinary journal for faith + inquiry, the journal of the christian scholars' conference. he holds degrees in interdisciplinary studies, communication, american religious history, and education. he came to lipscomb in 2019 after serving for the previous six years at oakland university as special lecturer in religious studies and founding faculty member of the center for religious understanding, where he collaborated with other ou faculty to conceive, launch, and advance interdisciplinary programming for religion and public life. he has served in editorial roles for academic journals, including as associate editor of communal studies: journal of the communal studies association, and he has held leadership positions with a variety of academic associations, including as section chair for the american academy of religion’s southeastern commission for the study of religion and committee member for the american religions section of the csc. dr. fleer has taught at florida state university, abilene christian university, and oakland university, where he was awarded the order of the plumb for impact on students.
