abstract
this article was the second prize winner of the university of wisconsin/madison analysis competition. the university of wisconsin/madison analysis competition was conducted in 1985 and adjudicated by an independent panel of nationally respected theory specialists. contestants were instructed to submit a teaching analysis of a tonal composition suitable for classroom presentation at the level of sophomore theory.
