master of accountancy requirements

applicants for the macc program are required to complete the gmat with a recommended score of 500 or higher. in addition, an undergraduate gpa or 3.00 or higher is preferred.  an internship or other relevant employment in the field is strongly encouraged.

macc candidates can satisfy the prerequisite requirements in one of two ways.

first method: complete 18 hours in accounting

students must complete the following courses:

• financial accounting (principles of accounting 1)
• managerial accounting (principles of accounting 2)
• intermediate accounting 1 and 2
• federal income taxation (individual tax)
• principles of auditing

second method: students can complete lipscomb’s integrated accounting seminar (accounting boot camp) [macc 501v] to satisfy all undergraduate prerequisites.

all students, particularly those without an undergraduate degree in business, should remember that many states, including tennessee, require students to have earned a specified number of hours in business to sit for the cpa exam.  additional hours in business or accounting courses may be recommended to comply with such requirements.

macc core courses (15 hours)

all macc students will complete 12 additional accounting hours from the following list of courses:

• macc 6032 - tax planning for high-net worth individuals (2)
• macc 6313 - governmental & non-profit accounting (3)
• macc 6403 - advanced accounting and consolidations (3)
• macc 6653 - it audit and risk management (3)
• macc 6703 - taxation of passthrough entities (3)
• macc 6712 - taxation of corporations (2)
• macc 6732 - accounting for income taxes (2)
• macc 6742 - state and local taxation (2)
• macc 6751 - tax procedure, research and writing (1)
• macc 6753 - technology, security, and emerging issues (3)
• macc 6763 - taxation of business entities (3)
• macc 6853 - data modeling, mining and visualization in accounting (3)

macc elective (3 hours required)

each macc student is required to select one additional elective course, which may be either (i) any macc course that has not previously been completed or (ii) from the list below:

• macc 661v - corporate residency in accounting (1-3)
• bu 6052 - financial management (2)
• bu 6333 - health care financial management (3)
• bu 6532 - leading effective organizations (2)
• bu 6a13 - internet and social media marketing (3)
• bu 6a23 - leading teams through change (3)
• bu 6a33 - leading with innovation (3)
