sw 3123 - trauma informed care (3) sp this course is designed to provide students with an overview of trauma and its impact across the lifespan. emphasis will be placed on the environmental context of diversity, and issues such as poverty, cultural status, racism, community violence, and the social determinants of health will be examined. evidence-based implications for trauma-informed practice, prevention, policies and services will be explored. topics covered include: adverse childhood experiences, toxic stress, resilience, the application of trauma-informed principles within the organization/agency setting, and the prevention of burnout and secondary trauma among helping professionals.
