engineers are problem solvers. within the raymond b. jones college of engineering students will learn to apply their skills in science and mathematics in combination with creativity to invent, design, build, test, operate, and maintain engineering systems that meet the needs of society. in the latter half of the 20th century, engineers developed the personal computer, the space shuttle, artificial hearts, cellular phones, and many other “high-tech” products that have improved the quality of life. the opportunities to use technology for the benefit of 21st century society will be even greater.
the raymond b. jones college of engineering provides students with an excellent opportunity to prepare for an exciting engineering career in an educational environment that encourages christian character and spiritual growth. in creating this opportunity for students, ray and libby jones have built upon the original goals of 世界杯2022预选赛录像回放
that “such other branches of learning may be added as will promote usefulness and good citizenship among men.” in keeping with that goal, graduates of the raymond b. jones college of engineering will be challenged to use their engineering education for the betterment of society, their profession, and their faith community.
the raymond b. jones college of engineering consists of the following academic departments: department of civil and environmental engineering, department of electrical and computer engineering, department of mechanical engineering, and in our school of computing, the department of computer science and software engineering and the department of cybersecurity and information technology. the college offers eight majors that lead to a bachelor of science degree from 世界杯2022预选赛录像回放
. in addition to lipscomb’s sacscoc accreditation that covers all eight programs, three of those undergraduate engineering degrees (mechanical engineering, electrical and computer engineering, and civil engineering), are accredited by the engineering accreditation commission (eac) of abet, http://www.abet.org. the remaining five degrees (computer science, software engineering, cybersecurity, information technology, and interdisciplinary engineering each address specific needs in their associated fields. the interdisciplinary engineering degree consists of a strong engineering foundation and combines it with a second area of knowledge (business, pre-med, education, entertainment, law, etc.) to equip graduates to leverage the critical thinking and problem solving inherent in the engineering foundational courses - applying those capabilities to specialized non-engineering concentrations. this degree is not accredited by abet. the students in this major are not eligible to take the fundamentals of engineering exam and will not be equipped to serve as a professional engineer, however numerous job opportunities are using such graduates in engineering adjacent fields.
off-site learning experiences (i.e. co-op and internship) are encouraged in the college of engineering. students should be aware that many experiential sites require satisfactory documentation of personal identification in the form of driver’s licenses, social security cards, passports, drug screening and background checks. students should make sure that they are aware of and can meet all documentation requirements well in advance of the timeframe for admission into the respective program and placement into these sites.
fundamentals of engineering exam requirement
licensure is an important part of the engineering profession; therefore, all undergraduate students planning to graduate from an abet accredited engineering program (civil, electrical/computer, or mechanical) within the raymond b. jones college of engineering are required to show proof of having taken the fundamentals of engineering exam in their chosen discipline prior to receiving a degree.
minor
the raymond b jones college of engineering offers a minor in humanitarian engineering which may be completed by engineering majors. students completing the minor will gain experience working in the growing field of humanitarian engineering through project-based learning and with support of the peugeot center. a minor in humanitarian engineering will also provide an opportunity for engineering students to pursue a vocation that not only employs their knowledge and skills but also creates long-term positive impact in the world. students interested in pursuing the minor should alert their academic advisor and reach out to the peugeot center staff for more information.
