biographical / historical

david lipscomb (1831-1917) grew to manhood on a farm in franklin co., tennessee. he graduated from nashville's franklin college in 1849 and was strongly influenced by its founder, tolbert fanning, whom he greatly admired. in 1866, lipscomb began his editorial work on the gospel advocate, which he continued for more than fifty years. in 1891, with the help of james a. harding, he founded the nashville bible school
