sexual misconduct is considered sexual harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence and stalking. this includes but is not limited to rape, incest, nonconsensual sexual acts, inappropriate comments, gestures or touching, physical abuse from a partner, verbal abuse from a partner, controlling behavior from a partner, being followed, cyberstalking, i.e. excessive text messages, phone calls or social media messages. 

to report directly to the title ix office, you can submit an incident report form (link), email the title ix office at titleix [at] lipscomb.edu, or come to our office located in crisman administration building, 2nd floor, in the office of general counsel.

a member of the title ix office will reach out to you to request a meeting to discuss what supports are available to you through supportive measures as well as what options are available to you to take action. it is never required that you respond or meet with the title ix office. we will typically attempt to reach you three times before encouraging you to reach out when/if you decide on your own.

we can implement supportive measures such as a no-contact order, academic or job related accommodations and connection to counseling and/or medical resources.

yes, you can submit an anonymous report. keep in mind though that if no identifiable information is provided (name, email, phone number, etc.) we may be unable to reach out to provide you with supports and are limited in what actions we can take. 

no. the respondent will not be notified at the time a report is filed. however, if you request a no-contact order be enforced, the respondent would then become aware of your involvement with the title ix office. additionally, if you file a formal complaint, they would also be notified.

a report is the action of notifying title ix that an incident of sexual misconduct has occurred. during this stage you can be offered supports, information and guidance on what, if any, action you decide to take. a formal complaint is submitted by you, in writing, requesting lipscomb begin the formal grievance process of investigating the allegations of sexual misconduct. the respondent will be notified at this time of the allegations made against them, including the reported incident and by whom.

this means you have been reported to have allegedly violated the sexual misconduct and sexual harassment policy. you are presumed not responsible for the alleged conduct and a determination of responsibility is made at the conclusion of the grievance proceedings. you are able to request supportive measures and will proceed through the same formal grievance procedures as the complainant.

if you are considered a responsible employee, you must promptly report the incident to the title ix coordinator. if you are not a responsible employee you are still encouraged to report the incident to the title ix office. a title ix team member will reach out to the student from there and nothing further is needed from you.

first, listen and provide support to your friend. inform them of the supports available to them and encourage them to report the incident to title ix. offer to help them get connected to the supports they are open to or assist them in filing a report. you can also file a report on behalf of your friend as a witness.

prevention and programming

each report and formal grievance hearing is handled on a case-by-case basis. the hearing officer is able to impose an appropriate sanction that is determined to be fair.

no, a title ix report or formal complaint will not go on any involved person’s educational record.

no. filing a police report is an available option for complainants if they so choose. lipscomb will not file a police report on behalf of a student.
